The reason that your email address is a required field is because if you do not include your email address, I will have no way of knowing where the message came from; thus leaving me with no way to reply.

A contact form helps protect privacy. Malicious programs called "email harvesters" troll the internet looking for email hyperlinks to add addresses to a database for spammers. A contact form hides all email addresses from these email harvesters.
